Egoscue
What is Egoscue?
Egoscue is a form of therapy that focuses on aligning the joints, reducing asymmetry and fine-tuning corrective work to eliminate pain within the body. Posture is about much more than “standing up straight.” Our technology driven world and lifestyle changes cause dysfunctional movement patterns that contribute to our bodies being out of alignment. The goal of Egsocue is for clients to do their own “menu” of exercises for 15-20 minutes a day to live a pain-free life.
Egoscue is named for Pete Egoscue, who is an anatomical physiologist. Pete returned from Vietnam in chronic nerve pain. He discovered that his series of exercises helped the body to heal itself when it is properly aligned.
Pilates
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a method of exercise that uses the body weight (and sometimes spring tension) to lengthen and strengthen muscles. It is a mind-body form of exercise that requires focus and concentration. Pilates strengthens deep postural muscles within the body. It is well known for strengthening the core and that’s true, but the core is about much more than abs! Many clients who start Pilates are surprised by how they feel muscles they've never used before. Pilates is different from yoga because it does not involve holding static postures. Pilates is dynamic and you will be moving throughout the session.
Pilates is named for Joseph Pilates, the brains behind the method of exercise. Joseph Pilates worked with ballet dancers, boxers, hospital patients and more and discovered that it was beneficial to all types of bodies. He used to say, “you are only as young as your spine is healthy.” In every session you will move your spine in all the directions it is meant to move!
